Nationally Recognised Training Course

This course is for people who are responsible for making decisions about the safety of facility occupants during an emergency. This includes effectively prioritising, commanding and coordinating emergency response procedures and liaising with emergency services.

Developed in line with Australian Standards 3745 & 4083, this course delivers the skills & qualifications for a person to act in the role of chief warden, deputy chief warden, area warden or communications officer for an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO).

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded a statement of attainment in the following units:

  • PUAFER005 Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
  • PUAFER006 Lead an emergency control organisation

Course Duration

  • Online delivery with face to face group practical assessment – self paced online learning with a scheduled 3 hour face to face practical assessment.
  • Group Bookings delivered entirely face to face at your workplace or at a training facility – 6 hours (minimum)

Practical course component – use of fire extinguishers to extinguish a live fire.

Course Delivery

  • Online learning with face to face assessment.
  • Alternatively, this course can be delivered entirely face to face in your workplace, or at a training facility.

Course Fees & Payment Terms:

Individual bookings: $255 + GST per participant

Payment terms – individuals are required to pay their course fees before commencing their study. Groups and organisations will be invoiced for their training and will be required to pay according to the invoice terms.

Refund Policy

  • Students who cancel their booking 10 days prior to the commencement of their training course are entitled to a full refund.
  • Cancellations made less than 10 days prior to the start of a course – 50% refund to cover processing costs.
  • Cancellations made after a training program has commenced are not refundable.

Entry Requirements

Online Study:
Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/pre-course studies.

Practical Assessment:
Participants must be physically capable of completing the practical demonstrations in the course including:

  • wearing suitable emergency control organisation identification;
  • assisting occupants who may require assistance;
  • giving clear directions to occupants and visitors;
  • using communications systems
  • responding to emergency signals and warnings;
  • commanding, controlling and coordinating of facility emergency response procedures.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

To complete any nationally accredited training in Australia, it is a requirement that you have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). You can register for a free USI at usi.gov.au If a USI is not supplied and verified, a statement of attainment cannot be issued to you upon completion of your training.

Assessment Requirements

Assessment for this training course includes a combination of practical demonstrations in simulated real life scenarios and theoretical assessment.

Performance tasks – (physical demonstrations):

  • Undertake pre-emergency planning
  • Prepare and plan for an emergency
  • Operate as part of an ECO in a fire emergency
  • Lead an ECO in a fire emergency

Documentation tasks:

  • Emergency equipment fault log
  • Emergency evacuation incident and debrief form
  • Facility emergency plan (extract)

Theory Assessment:

The theory component of this course is comprised of a series of questions assessing the required knowledge from the training package.
